Last Thursday evening, the UP200 lost a wonderful friend, Anna Sanford.  Anna, along with her husband Doug, have been long time volunteers and supporters of the UP200 – Midnight Run – Jack Pine 30 sled dog races.  Anna has a very long history of helping with UP200, going all the way back to the early years of the races. She served as our volunteer coordinator, working tirelessly to get the right people in the right places at the right times. She and Doug have strong ties to Alger County and they teamed up to deliver supplies to Alger County road crossings. In recent years, Anna made sure the Alger County crossing buckets were stocked with supplies, had up-to-date documentation including race rosters, and were delivered to the road crossings on Friday evening so volunteers were prepared when teams arrived. Anna was a compassionate and caring nurse who taught nursing at Northern Michigan University. Through her practice, teaching and volunteering, Anna touched the lives of so many people. Her generosity and kindness will be remembered by all of us. With great sadness we send our condolences to Anna’s family and many friends.
